I dont use spotify because its absolute trash, but it does have options for the buffering quality while streaming through cellular data. So thats probably why his spotify would sound better than yours, you need to disable the lowered quality on cellular data
However its still a completely garbage service. If you care about sound quality spend the ten bucks a month on apple music. It sounds better than spot/youtube/amazon and the cataloging and lyrics are much much more accurate
