FWIW, i had a hard time getting my 2013 separated too. The dowel pins had corroded and (I think) were a big part of hanging things up. Agree though - you need the engine/trans to be at the right angle.
While waiting for the parts guys for the TOB at my dealer, the service manager stopped by and we talked for a bit - he said they often run into one that's stuck and difficult to remove - they drive a wedge in between the engine bell bell housing. I can't recommend that. I just had to do some (well... lots of) prying, and then a good pull/shake.
I think - yes it should just slide off, but it's not unusual for them to be more difficult from what I've heard.
