Good point, can't be overstated.

You see people talking about how they'd never take their car to a "stealership" for service, why does anyone think dealer service centers are anything but crap, etc.

Dealer service centers are like everywhere else: some good, some bad, and within every one there's techs that are better/worse than others. The best mechanic can have a bad day.

IMHO you don't take a car to a dealership to get the best possible service. You take it there to get warranty repairs done at little/no cost, and you take it there to avoid them using where you took it as an excuse NOT to cover it under warranty.

If you want to be certain it's done right, do it yourself or take it where you trust that it'll be done right. Might be a dealership. Might be a buddy.

But if it's not the dealership you may find a bigger fight waiting if you need something done under warranty. If you're going to void the warranty anyway, sure - do whatever you like.

Use the right tool for the job is what you need to keep in mind.
