I let the rpms drop to match and slot the lever in with minimal pressure, when it wants to, not when I tell it to. Never had a problem and I've had 3 Manual BMWs I've put over 100k on each without ever touching the transmission or clutch, I sold my E46 with 196k on the original clutch and that clutch is still going at 250k as of 6 months ago. Mechanical sympathy goes a long way even when you do tend to drive the crap out of a motor/gearbox. My foot doesn't go hard down until the gears are properly meshed and the engine is out of lugging territory.

I've always referred to those baulk rings as synchro rings, thanks for showing me the correct term!
