I fully understand the world is (almost?) entirely populated with idiots, but so many of them also treat laziness like their national past-time that it's still confusing to see them go out of their way to avoid the simple, low-effort solution.

The sad part is that if they had responded "Looked and couldn't find it", "Don't have access to the manual right now" or any of another half dozen possible and reasonable responses they probably would have got an answer.
