Contacted a friend who is a manager at Toyota and he told me they are doing all this by allocations. But I don't know what my odds are at aquiring this car in the next 2 to 3 months.

Unlike the BRZ Toyota does not work on a factory order system for the 86. Nobody is really sure why but it likely has something to do with the fact that Toyota buys the cars from Subaru so the system may just not be set up for factory orders. When you "order" an 86 you are actually more putting your name on a waiting list for the exact car you want to show up through the regular dealer allocation. Toyota does have a very robust dealer swap system so it is possible for your dealer to get one that is allocated to another dealer but with the high demand for these things there may simply be none open for a swap.
It is VERY optimistic to say you would receive it in 2 to 3 months and in all probability it will be closer to 4 to 6 and it will be a 23 car. The industry is struggling with severe parts shortages right now so any estimated time could be way short or far longer since they just don't know what will happen literally from one day to the next.
Leave your order in place and just be patient since there is not a single thing you or the dealer can do to speed things up!
