The Civic Type R for example has damaged Honda's brand for me personally. The whole situation around it has turned me off of Honda all together. Probably just bad luck with the dealers I interacted with, but I won't even consider the new one - which by the way looks like it will be a dream - or any Honda for that matter.
Subaru has been selling us the WRX and STI (RIP) for 20 years. Even the STI wasn't really a halo car in that it was never hard to get. That never hurt its brand and they must have made money on them. I guess I'll say my hope is that this GR experiment doesn't end after some unobtainable tease 2-3 year limited edition car. I hope it continues on until regs forbid it, and they actually commit to making something obtainable, even if that means down-badging it to "GR Sport" or something. We just need some fun cars.

"Enthusiasts" make up less than 1% of the car buying public but have some of the highest wish lists.
