just finished the cruella movie. was expecting something comic-book villan/hero kinda thing.

it was a really good movie by itself, but could never shake the burden of trying to place itself before 101 dalmations. that's really what made it terrible-- attempting to create a 'hero' backstory for a legacy disney villan.

the dogs were cool, the dalmations in it were bipolar, i appreciated that the sidekicks were portrayed as competent individuals with unique skillsets instead of bumbling morons, though trying to place the male cross-dresser in 1965 england felt like a new-age stretch to instill current-era gender associations instead of something that was more likely to occur in 1965...
