Not judging your relationship, but from this prospective it seems you've been doing it right to date in terms of not co-owning things without the marriage ceremony. I would be careful about messing it up now.
For what its worth, MomHawk and I made a conscious decision from the beginning to co-mingle finances, with everything in both names, and having full access to the money. Anything less felt like we were planning to have one foot already out the door. We do realize not everyone sees it that way of course, but it's worked for us for almost 35 years and we've never had a money fight, at least not a major one.
