I think your worry is unfounded.
I agree to a certain point (and have used one in the past without problems).
But there are 4 other factors that helped me decide to not do it (at this time):

1- I want to track the car at HPDE events, so reliability is VERY important
2- I have a lift, so removing bolt isn't too bad
3- The way the valve sicks into the oil pan when installed, it leaves a little oil at the bottom
4- It drains slower

Don't get me wrong, it's a great device, and I'm sure that they are (mostly) reliable. I'm also convinced that they are great for those that have trouble accessing the drain bolt. It's just that I had a change of heart after the few reviews that I read. Before I read them, I was still not 100% on it due to the 4 reasons above, so it just pushed me enough to change my mind, that's all.
