I don't think the article is related to this crashed BRZ.
The driver posted the following with a pic of the wreck in a discord after it happened on 12/17:

Still not entirely sure what happened, i can’t recollect. but basically from what i heard from the police is i hydroplaned, lost control, spun out, and got hit my a truck on the driver side. just thankful to be alive still. 8 broken ribs, and having my left lung drained. still in the hospital right now. my dad is going to see the car soon so i’ll share pics of it once i get to see them
