Aside from that, the next best thing would be a gooseneck arm phone mount and put it on the dashboard so it hangs to the left of the built-in display, kind of behind the windshield wiper wand/switch, out of the way a little but close enough to grab without stretching out toward the glove compartment.

It is plastic at knee-high. I was thinking about a phone holder that sticks to the windshield like this one.
