Keep in mind that in Texas you only pay tax on the difference between your trade and your new car, so if if your trade was $30k, you could accept an offer $2k less than CarMax since you'd end up about even and it's less hassle to just give the trade to the dealer you're buying from.

If they're 6k below the others, just hand it over to CarMax or get a quote from Autonation and then ask them to match CarMax (they usually will) if it's lower.

I alluded to this in an earlier post, but will expand a bit since you're also in DFW. Autonation's online tool will route you to what I *think* is the nearest dealer, for me that was either Autonation Honda in Lewisville or BMW of Dallas. The brand of car appears to have no bearing (my BMW offer was routed to the Honda dealership). We also sold a car to CarMax in Irving ... even though we had an appointment they took 2.5 hours. No hassle, just lots of waiting. The two cars that went to Autonation took about 30-45min from walking through the front door to walking out with a check. In fact one of the Autonation reps let me send my license and paperwork over email so he could get it all ready, walked in, signed, walked out with money.

Not sure why Five-Star is playing games. They all use the latest wholesale auction data and know that if you don't give it to them you'll just give it to someone who offers you significantly more.
