Had to call 911 45 mins ago. I live in a large apartment complex and every set of buildings has a separate USPS cluster mail box.
Well anyway, at 11:45pm I hear metal rattling noises and at first don't think much of it, sometimes people get their mail late. But then I kept hearing it so I peaked out my window. Yep, two dudes somehow fully opened the entire box (can normally only do it with a master key) and one of them keeps checking if people are around.
So I called 911, got connected to the sheriff (I guess this city I live in now doesn't have a PD). Literally within two mins of talking to the dispatcher there's a helicopter circling overhead and then a minute after that, the responding deputy calls my cell phone asking if I have any additional info.
Then a minute later they're already at the mailbox outside my window checking it out. I ended up going out there to talk to them and at first they thought it was just a parcel box that had been broken into, but I said no it was the whole thing, and so the second guy checked and of course the entire door swung wide open (the entire door connecting all the boxes). "Oh wow, this is crazy!" (Side note, how do these guys not know how USPS-owned cluster boxes work?)
So I tell them I'm not usually used to a quick response like this because when I used to live in downtown San Jose I'd call to report a crime I was witnessing and the police literally never came at all. So one of them responded "uhhh yeah we do things differently here."
Lol.
