Christmas of 1997 I bought what I was told was the fastest computer available, an I.B.M. Aptiva S80. I was some pissed when they released the S90 just a week later. I ended up swapping the S80 for an S90 with a 17" CRT. Problem was there were only two expansion slots. I had to have a digital game port to play Falcon with my Thrustmaster HOTAS system so I added a top of the line Soundblaster card with said port. That left only one slot for a 3Dfx card. I started with a 2MB card and soon was up to an 8MB like all my buddies had. Then they are got a second card and ran them in SLI. I didn't have an open slot so that was not possible for me untill...
Quantum3D came along with their Obsidian2 (2 in 1) cards My local Electronic Boutique got in a 12MB card for the small sum of $889.00 CND. I couldn't sneak that one in past the wife. However it sat there for many months and finally it went on sale, (I think I got it for around $600) Still that was a lot of money at that time. I loved that card and ran it in many different computers. I've never been one to try and keep up each time something new comes out. I'm still running an Asus ROG Geforce GTX 980 in my last build. Gee, that was summer of 2015.
