Just a quick note for anyone who's interested...
I have been looking at all the various supercharger kits available for our cars, and I really like the aesthetics of the HKS kit, including the very clean overall look of the kit and the fact that it uses the OEM airbox and intake manifold.
With some of the reported supercharger failures in this thread, however, I was concerned that reliability could be an issue, so I was considering other clean-looking kits (Vortech, Edelbrock and Harrop) instead.
I noted that the new HKS kits ship with the GT2-7040L supercharger rather than the older GTS-7040L, but from pictures, the only difference appeared to be the colour (with the GT2 being black/dark grey vs. silver for the GTS), but I figured they wouldn't just paint them and slap a new model number on, so there must be some difference.
I contacted
support@hksusa.com (who were very responsive by the way - they got back to me within a few business days) and asked what the difference is between the two superchargers, and the reply was:
"As for GTS-7040L, it was already discontinued and we currently offer GT2-7040L only.
GT2-7040L is a successor of GTS-7040L with improved internal structure.
Although there is not much difference in terms of performance, durability has been significantly improved."
This at least makes me hopeful that some of the design issues have been addressed, so the kit is back to the top of my list, and hopefully going on the car sometime late next year!
