I'm using splined Muteki lug nuts and stock studs and have probably removed the wheels about 12 times already with no issues. I always use hand tools, though - release the nuts with a wrench, remove by hand; put on by hand until snug to the wheel, tighten slightly with wrench, torque to spec with a torque wrench.

Completely agree with getting a replacement. The only drive I would be willing to do with a missing lug is to the closest parts shop to get a replacement.
