I think its always been connected to the subframe..? The subframe is redesigned in both cars though.

The BRZ has it connected directly to the body, and so I believe its welded, not through a bushing - very direct.

I think Toyota has spent considerably more time suspension tuning than Subaru though, I think it might be considered a further evolution even though its on a slightly less direct chassis.
