So apparently Subaru and Toyota changed the shape of the rear quarter panels in such a way that some of the tire/wheel combos common on 1st gen cars no longer fit.

@trippinbillies40 has posted photos of 255/40R17 tire poking out of the fender on 17x9 et45 wheels.
You read that right, poking on 45 offset wheels, meaning the typical 35–40 range wheels will poke even more.

He's still on stock RLCAs at ~-2.0º camber in the rear after lowering,
but by my estimation adding 0.5...1.0º of camber in the rear will only give you a couple of millimeters of extra room.

It looks like it's going to be a challenge to fit big tires on identical wheels front and back.
I anticipate some people will end up doing some cutting and wide body / fender flares in the rear to keep using the tires/wheels they used on 1st gens.
Some people might want to stick to 215 or 225 tires for a while until a more appropriate solution is found.

What can a proper solution be?
Shorter rear upper control arms? Fender rolling? Aftermarket hubs?

Subaru and Toyota, why would you do that to us?..
We'd be better off with the front suspension optimized for ~40 offset wheels, rather than the rear geometry optimized for 48 offset wheels

I'll let @trippinbillies40 and @CSG Mike provide more details, but wanted to start this topic in case someone is about to put down an order on a 2022 car, or take a delivery, or something; and this information is critical to their decision.
