Yeah, I'm hearing you. I'm not so sure if Subaru and Honda share the same philosophy in terms of getting the most HP/torque out of their engines, or not ( in terms of how their VVT works). Possibly Mitsubishi is sort of similar to Honda. I know Toyota leans closer to getting the most MPG out of the engine primarily, secondarily is HP/torque. BMW seems to be more so HP/torque focus , MPG secondarily. Every manufacture has a different set of goals /objectives in regards to VVT.
