While I have a feeling Indiana labor rates are not California >$100/hour, sourcing a good engine and doing it 100% correctly would be worth $7k to me, even though my car is worth like $10k max.
Looks like ebay engines are $4-$5k these days, plus a day or two of labor you're there. If (when?) My engine blows, I'd source a junkyard/eBay motor, swap in my garage, rebuild the original as a spare, but not many people are dumb enough to take that risk so no guilt from me to someone who wants to take it to a shop.
