Here with the GR86, they marginally increased the weight, gave us the engine we wanted, and still kept the soul of the car. The fender humps are still there, take a look at any review of the car. There is the RZ trim confirmed for Japan which removes AC, duckbill spoiler, badging, and center infotainment, and gives it steel wheels for those looking for a cheap entry for R&D or motorsports. The only thing you mentioned that was true is the display cluster, but even that has the enthusiast in mind. It gives us oil temperature, tire pressure, etc, all while being gimmick free. In normal mode the digital cluster even mimics an analog gauge to give "purists" even less to complain about.
Small rant because it sucks to hear complaints about things that either don't exist, or aren't an issue, especially when Toyota did an incredible job on the GR86.

I agree 100%, realistically this refresh could not have gone much better than it did.
