Why do you think you cannot drive with a loose battery terminal? Clean it up, squeeze the ends of the terminal together slightly with a pair of pliers, and you will find it makes a nice, snug connection as you push it down on the terminal.

This is not a permanent fix and you should replace the bolt as suggested above by other responses

My point is there is no problem driving the car short distances without the bolt (like to the parts store and back). If the connection is loose the most likely "failure" is that you battery won't charge well and eventually you will not be able to restart and require a jump.
