I would imagine it's the price. I can buy a lifetime of replacement standard batteries for the cost of one of the lithium ones.

Even Tesla's use standard 12V battery that if it dies, you can't get into or start the car. In fact, you can't even get access to the dead 12V battery without using the "emergency" procedure to open the "Frunk" and then you have to remove a whole bunch of plastic trim pieces to charge it.

Now, Tesla could build in a "bypass" that would pull power from the battery pack to recharge the battery should it go dead, but they don't do that. The 12V charges from the battery pack only when the car is "started".
