More like it's easy to change a story, period.
People have limited attention and favor things that reinforce their beliefs.
The news straight up changed the story on the lockdown of Wuhan from "city locked down, no one allowed to leave! Scary!" to "a bunch of people flew out between [before the lockdown] and [after the lockdown]" to "people were allowed to fly out during the lockdown" (chartered flights by other countries to get their citizens out of the city as an exception to the airport shutdown).
Another example is the whole "human to human transmission" debacle. The news reported human to human transmission being confirmed on January 14th, but then later they started saying it was confirmed a week later.
Before 2020, I didn't think mainstream publications had the balls to self-contradict so many times in a row, but here we are...you can have the same paper changing the dates around several times, you can have the same eyewitness changing their story from one interview to the next, and most people don't notice.
This is why I bought my Aston Martin. I figure the world is coming to an end, so I might as well enjoy a gas guzzling exotic car while I can XD
