Most people don't drive their car in a way that put enough heat into things or have a 3" exhaust pipe right next to things either.

I addressed it in my T4 build and a cost effective way of addressing it.

The heat presents 2 risks: 1) it bakes away the grease causing it to deteriorate and eventually fail and 2) sudden change in temperature (like going 10/10ths immediately on a cold morning) can cause the boot to balloon and explode.

I was on the phone with Driveshaft Shop talking about axles and they confirmed my practice which is cover the 3 bases: Good Grease, Breathable boot and keep unnecessary heat away.
