It's not so much insanity and more like the inanity. My first reaction is that you and folks that think and behave as you do are simply too stupid to put two and two together or, simply unwilling to do the arithmetic. Personally, what I see as your flippancy and self centered approach to what I see as a very real threat to the well being of my family, friends, and neighbors reinforces that perception. It smacks of, in short - selfishness. And, I have neither affection nor tolerance for selfish people.

However, my more rational self believes there is much more to it. Many commentators and students of American society keep telling us that the polarization we see is due in part to the alternative realities in which we are living. I suspect that is one of the things that fuels the discussions in this thread.

I appears that you (and others) and I (and others) simply do not see the same world. We do not value the same things nor do we want the same future. Once that view gathers momentum it becomes far too easy to begin to think of those who refuse to accept our reality as evil and, in the final act - disposable. You see glimpses of the latter in the enthusiasm with which many among the Q-istas approach(ed) the possibility of rounding up and executing their opponents.

This is not America's first rodeo with that mindset. We see and have seen the current momentum building in this direction happening in this country for 40 years. Put together, this spells trouble for us all. Too many of the times this has happened in the past the result has been wholesale violence. We are not there but I fear we are closer than at any time in recent memory, perhaps in 160 years.

I really hope I am wrong about you. Spuds is right - these are discussions that happen most productively face to face. But. this is where we are.
