I disagree with this. Most cars that hit poles are so far out of control that the driver has no say in where it is headed. It is also often the result of the car being struck so the driver doesn't even have time to see the pole much less focus on it.
The majority of car vs pole/tree/upright structure are not frontal impacts anyway.
