Yep, we have cottonwood trees around here. They are a mess. Not only do they shed a lot of fluff, they are not worth anything to burn (they burn too fast in a fireplace or stove).

We had a large (3 feet diameter) cottonwood tree in the middle of several tall pine trees in our side-front yard. The large leaves would fall and "stick" to the driveway when wet.

I had it cut down and hauled off. Took this guy and his wife all day to do the job (a 2' section at a time). No way (place to fell it).

The fellow ask if I wanted for him to bring in a stump grinder to get rid of the stump because It would continue to grow shoots. I said no, I'd take care of the stump.

How? Well this was back in my "change my own oil days". I simply poured the used oil on the stump and the pithy wood would absorb the oil like a big ol sponge. The tree finally gave up trying to regrow.
