ICEs have character in torque delivery, redline and sound, which is engaging as an enthusiast, but a hybrid or electric car could be designed that is more of a driver’s car than many ICEs basic or even sporty. The DNA of enjoyable sporty car is also derived in handling, steering responsiveness, chassis stiffness and feedback, light weight, balanced and low weight distribution, horsepower, sporty looks and a low seating position with bolstering, etc and for me, getting to row my own gears. In theory, an EV could provide these things along with excellent braking due to regen along with a set of performance brakes. I wouldn’t say it is inherently boring.

Honest question: If the ICE experience could be simulated effectively with a sound system, chassis vibrators, throttle mapping and perfumed odors of gasoline and exhaust, would people still want ICEs? I wonder.
I would like to see that experiment done as well, but seems crazy that I might lose my ICE when cow farts are just as bad and I can buy a steak anywhere. I mean the strip mining needed for batteries for EV will have a profound effect on the environment.
