Not saying these pics should be compared, but for sure the 1st gen fenders look taller and higher to me. I drew horizontal lines in for each at the external fender peaks and also at the peaks of the wheelwell openings on the sides, 2nd gen pic is lower at both. At the rear, the tails and hips again look to me to be same height or lower on the 2nd gen. But again, these pics are not really good basis for comparison!

I think that picture is a great example of what I’m talking about. You may be right about certain features (headlight height or fender arch height) being lower, but even looking at that picture, the 1st gen just looks lower/wider. That’s why I think it might be the design differences rather than any physical differences, or even camera angles/lenses.
