I wouldn't say it will "likely" be faster than the new one. Looking at the weight/power ratio, Miata sits around 12.93 at best. The first gen twin falls around 13.73 - which is pretty significant, hence why the Miata is a good bit quicker than our first gen. But now looking at second gen, the twin will be around 12.35 in MT form AND a significantly better torque curve (nice and flat). I would highly bet against the current Miata being quicker.
