Only applies to the automatic transmission option.
It skips 1st gear and starts out in 2nd to lower initial torque that makes it less likely to spin the wheels.
Manual transmission models don't have the "Snow Mode" button installed. Only an empty space on the switch plate.
You can get the same effect by starting in 2nd gear.
Using the stock tire widths (M/T and A/T) there isn't enough clearance around the tires to use snow chains.
Some have reported that fabric tire socks can be used for a short distance before they wear out and start flapping around.

I've had my FR-S since '13 when I bought it new. Now it's slightly over 87k miles.
Nothing has broken ... yet.
Original throw out bearing and spark plug coils have served well so far.
No oil leaks. Booyah!
It's been a nice handling small car that I prefer to drive at a reasonable rate on back roads rather than freeways.
