As far as the tach goes I don't care what it says. I can tell if I am where I want to be from the sound and feel. In fact when I teach somebody how to drive MT the first thing I do is tape up the tach so they learn to drive by intuition not staring intently at a gauge.

Same here. The only time I do any staring at the gauges is when drag racing and I'm trying to shift right at the fuel cut. In normal driving it's all done off feel and sound. I'm trying to think back of when I was new to driving and I don't recall ever having an obsession with the speedo. The sensation of speed for me comes with the seat of the pants not a number rotating at a high rate.
