At least if you do have overconsumption of oil, you can continually add oil and not have the engine self-destruct! I'd call this Supra problem WAY more benign...

It’s less than 1% not 8%. Roughly around 16,000 987.1 caymans were sold. 1% of 16000 is 160 cars. So yeah, exaggerated.
B58 motors acceptance level for oil consumption is 1qt for every 1000 miles. Which a lot of these Supras are well within the limit. There has been only two Supras that I know of that has gotten an engine replacement.
That being said, oil consumption is over exaggerated.
