The harsh reality is that SARS-CoV-2 is here to stay. It's endemic, and we will never be rid of it (at least not in the U.S. with our impatience, short-sightedness, selfishness, and unwillingness to do what would be needed to contain it as has been done in other countries like New Zealand, Australia, and Taiwan).

Both because the immune response to the current COVID vaccines fades over time, and more so, the continued rise of variants that may be increasingly resistant to vaccines, for those who want to stay safe we will need to get regular, periodic vaccinations going forward (either with booster shots to augment antibody levels, or more likely, new vaccines tailored to work against variants) similarly to how we now get the flu vaccines.
