The specialty badges get watered down by the companies so much each year that they have almost come to be meaningless. Even calling a base model 86 a "GR" seems excessive. What will the top line be? A GR SE? GR GT?
I agree I thought it sounded a little excessive, but if they stick to stock cars in dedicated sports platforms and heavily modified cars from the standard platforms then I think you could justify it.

If we start getting a GR badge because the GR division tuned the suspension of a corolla... well then that massively dilutes the GR brand they are going for.

Overall I like where they are heading with the brand - In Australia (and I assume elsewhere) they have set-up a Gazoo Racing Club available only to GR owners - which looks a little more legit than some of the things manufacturers do.
