I may be the minority, but I would suggest never putting something in your exhaust that, if damaged, could block the flow of the exhaust.
The idea can be implemented, but I'd say you're better off just managing your sound levels manually with the silencer if you don't like the exhaust choice you made sometimes.
This is the game we play! It's nice to be loud and cool until you are delivering pizza to a funeral home and they are waiting outside for you
