Yes, you read that right. $62,000. Plus the 5% buyer's commission = $65,100.

Sixty five thousand, one hundred dollars.

I've had a few (too many) beers tonight, but still. $65,100.

For a 1976 Toyota Celica fastback.

Notwithstanding the tear-jerker of a story from the buyer about replacing a husband's beloved car, there was another buyer willing to pay $61,000. So the price is not unique.

I totally agree that a 1976 Celica fastback is a neat car. But is it really worth three times the price of a new BRZ/86 (or more than double the price of the nicest Hakone 86 ever sold)?!?!?!

This is not a one-time phenomenon. Check out the prices paid for S2000's lately:

The world truly is coming to an end. When people have $65,100 to throw around for a 1976 Toyota Celica - or over $100,000 for a Honda S2000 - it's The End of Days.

There really is insanely too much money sloshing around out there. The previous times this happened in history, things didn't end well.

These type of things are making my dreams of owning a Nissan Silvia S15 even more impossible.
