I've had a bit of a stressful week, and this apparent almost confirmation of the FT86 becoming a Scion is really bothering me.
I'm very close to being out. The final straw will be seeing how serious they really are about this car. Basically it comes down to the motor. If it is little more than a re-flashed FB25 with a better exhaust, I'm out.
I'm feeling trolled in a way, too.
In December of 2009 I signed up to a forum that was about a beautiful, clean Toyota, inspired by the old AE86.
Now I am a member of a forum dedicated to a factory riced-out Scion. WTF happened here? Is this one of Scion's new fancy marketing techniques?
I'm still going to be putting away cash for a down payment, but depending on how things go, that may end up going towards a low-mile MR-S and then a 2ZZGE/6M swap. Should be less money than the Scion anyways, get better mileage, be faster, and be just as reliable if I keep the motor mostly stock.
I'll also see if I'm in a better mood when I find out more about whether our company gets sold or not and what will happen after etc...
