Possible, but again, this should lead to potential problems or misfires throughout the RPM range, not just at peak I would think. Though I don't know that I've ever heard of a coil pack failing to produce energy fast enough right at peak RPM, it is certainly possible that it is beginning to fail. How old were your plugs when you replaced them? Did they look to be pretty worn?
