Masks are not really good at preventing inhalation/ingestion of aerosolized "stuff." We can catch it through our eyes. Masked or not, one of you walked through a cloud of it, most likely in an enclosed space with stagnant air. After that, game over for the whole household.
We now have a nurse visiting one of our family a couple times a week for surgical after-care. I open all the windows fifteen minutes before, during, and after the short visit. I do this more out of respect for our visitor than for our safety. We do the best we can in the spirit of the exercise and hope for the best.
