You are right, tuning IS a big component. I'm just telling you that the EJ20 is just too anemic down below
Adding a 0.5L of displacement, however, does make a huge difference. Ask anyone who's compared a '02-'05 WRX to a '06 and above model.
Still, it's not like a 2.0L won't still be fun. It just means you have to stomp on the go pedal with each takeoff for a little longer.
