The only year to watch out for is 2013 because of the valve spring recall, but even that should be fine if enough time/miles have elapsed since it was done. For example, I’m one year and 9000 miles past having the recall done on my 2013 and it’s been rock solid. Those miles were nearly all hard canyon miles and two track days. Actually my s2000 friend who regularly drives my car in the canyons told me to let him know if I ever decide to sell it, but I’m confident enough in the engine work that Im not letting it go anytime soon.
So if you can get a good deal on a 2013 and enough miles have passed since it had the recall done, I wouldn’t worry about it. The vast majority of failures happened within a few hundred miles. Past that, you should be good to go. If youve got a little more money, there were some nice updates from 2014-2016.
Overall these cars are very reliable. In the 8 years I’ve owned mine, I’ve done about 40 track days and lots of canyon miles and haven’t had any real issues. The TOB and two coilpacks is the extent of what I’ve replaced (not counting track consumables like pads, tires, and rotors). Overall still love this car and would highly recommend it. It’s been 8 years of fun miles and experiences with a great community.
