That is certainly an interesting place to see a scratch, and we are sorry to see that. Our wheels are packaged with safety in mind (double boxed with lip protectors), and in the rare case damage does occur, it is typically at the lip of the wheel after our friends at UPS has gone all Ace Ventura on us
Thankfully the location of yours will be covered by the tire as you mentioned, but please reach out if I can assist further.
