Took the car out to another event yesterday. This time at Arizona Motorsports Park. First time driving the car since adding the suspension, wheels, and tires.
Brought along an old friend who I hadn't seen in almost a decade with his MKIV Supra. Bone stock. 40k original miles. First HPDE ever.
The course is a bit higher in speed compared to the last track, which was mostly 2nd and 3rd gear, with one upshift to 4th and then immediately back down. This track was consistently 3rd and 4th with one straight being enough for 5th gear.
This video was from my first session, which yielded my best time of the day of a 1:58.8. I kept running into traffic the rest of the day, which prevented me from bettering that time, but the app showed I was easily on pace a couple times to get into the mid 57s without much issue before having to lift/slow down for other cars. My initial goal was sub 2, so I'm happy to have gotten that. Now I'm aiming for the 55s lol.
Did a once over on the car today to check everything. If you listen in the video, you can actually hear a bit of rubbing going around left hand corners. It was coming from the front right, and was enough to wear the fender liner a bit, as well as bow out the front fender near the door a touch.
A bit of heat and some pushing and the fender popped back in place lol. It was only a couple mm difference anyways, so no big deal. I did roll the front right a touch more for some additional clearance but I can't really roll the fender anymore than it is now. These tires run a bit wide though too, and it was only an issue with a passenger. I would raise the car, but I love the current height and don't want to touch it. Plus, I'm confident that as soon as I switch tires, I won't have the issue anymore.
Checked tires and brakes too. Pretty even wear across from what I can tell, and wasn't rolling over the outer shoulder. Definitely got some temp in them though.
Sent a pic of the pads to CSG Mike and he mentioned some of the built up material on the pads, which he suspected might be partially due to the fact I've been using the same rotors when switching between stock pads and the CSG C2s. So I'm gonna get another set of rotors to run with these to help improve pad wear and feel.
Everything else was great. Everything still tight and solid. Oil temps never went over 200º, though the ambient temp was in the high 60s-low 70s all day. No oil burning, nothing in the catch can. Car feels strong.
The car felt plenty playful too. Would move around a little bit under braking and corner entry if trail braking, but would be pretty neutral with maybe a hint of rotation mid corner at higher speeds, but stable at slower speed and stable on corner exit. Push too hard and the front starts to scrub and the car pushes, as expected. But everything felt pretty progressive and easily managable. It never did anything rapidly or aggressively. I'm sure a better driver could find things that could be improved, but I'm happy.
Setup wise, I'm pretty content. Just need some rotors. I'll eventually add some JDL 4-2-1 EL headers + ECUTek, and maybe a TRD 4.56 rear end with a 1.5 way. But other than that, I'm pretty good.
