anticubus: properly stored tire degrades little. I'd expect not more then eg. 10%/3-5 years, worsening for modern tire in storage warehause. It's when it in actual use, "clock really ticking for it", as rubber wears down, goes through heat cycles, some possible additives dissipate, roadsalt and other road chemistry and so on .. and if for some tires last even past 3 years of real use ..
So imho it's safe enough to get upto 3 years old tires, especially if they come with some good deal that more then offsets slight potential degradation.
