For every raced or beat on Twin out there you will probably find 100 gently used daily driven and well maintained one. Those drivers simply are not on forums or social media bragging about how they redline every shift and drift around every corner. Hell, even the ones that make that claim are not actually doing it all the time or they would be walking by now due to the shear number of tickets they would have. The forum is deceiving as to what the actual "average" owner of these cars is like. Hell, even many of the people here don't beat on their cars and many of the ones that do maintain it to a level that counters the heavy use.

I suspect you are correct about abuse. But used performance cars are still not mini-vans or Volvos. With used cars, “Was It A Rat I Saw” spelled backwards is still “Was It A Rat I Saw” because sometimes there are rats.
