Not sure where you are getting that from, my Pixel 2XL gets security and OS updates regularly, in fact I got one last week. I've had no issue keeping Android phones for a minimum of 4 years.
Like I said, nothing I need or want in my car. I don't want my car to be controllable from a phone or remotely in any sort of way.
What you say about chargers make sense, and frankly is what i would do if I was running Tesla. I was just saying it doesn't reconcile with Musk's rhetoric at times.
Also, that photo is proof positive that an electric vehicle is not acceptable (for me) on road trips. Sorry I'm just not that patient when traveling.

I don't find it a big deal. It sounds like you don't mind having an update for your phone, but you would for your car. Most of the updates are security updates or driver assistance updates that make the driver assistant software better and safer. Like how a recall can be mandated (86 MY13 spring recall), if not doing an update could represent a security or safety risk then it makes sense to make them mandatory. On the phones:

Are you one of these guys? You might be the one in a million that wouldn't find those features useful. I'm sure everyone has lost their car in a baseball game parking lot and would like to find their car easier, or has wanted to vent their car on a hot day, or has wanted to warm their interior on a cool morning (or cool their pet in their car on a hot day), or wanted to not carry a bulky key fob, or allow someone access inside or use of their car without needing to give them your key fob/keys, or whatever.
