Yeah, from what I've seen online, there really isn't much to be done there. Very few people have coded on an Arduino and displayed other things such as coolant temperature or some type of reading from OBDII. Also, it's just not a very simple thing to manipulate if you go any other route really. Put some cover over it and then you still have your three buttons left over. You pretty much have to take it apart and design and 3D print something else over it.
